Summer in the City is formed by some outstanding young people who bring countless vitality and creativity for operating the program. Most of the founders who are in the Board of Directors and Crew started their volunteering back when they were in high school, and still have never been able to give up habit. If you would like to become a member of our family, you are more than welcome to join.
The mission of Summer in the City is always to affect the impact of volunteers on Detroit. By bringing a diverse group of younger people together to invest their vitality in Detroit, Summer in the City programs and projects address the immediate needs of city neighborhoods and foster a regional mindset.

Summer in the City

Even though we like our new location, we don’t like sitting in the office that you can rarely find us there. Each day throughout the summer, we alternate from eight carpool sites within the Detroit.
We found that in Detroit there was an unprecedented need for volunteers to do significant things and a nearly limitless way of getting prospective volunteers who just needed the transportation to get involved. We saw that there were some people with lots of free time on summer holiday and plenty of restless energy, but we didn’t wish to have to commit our whole summer.
Summer in the City operates on a limited budget without any overhead. The majority of our funding generates from various people and families in the neighborhood who have faith in what we do. further, we also hold the good relationship with some companies and foundation partners, and we always look for new partners who would like to make things happen in our community, Detroit.
